West Brom: Justin Allen baffled by Carlos Corberan omission after new EFL announcement

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is a “glaring omission” among the nominees for Championship Manager of the Year, according to Justin Allen.

The Albion boss was not included on the three-man shortlist for this season’s award, missing out in place of Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, Leeds United’s Daniel Farke and Hull City manager Liam Roseinor.

While McKenna appears to be the most likely candidate to win the award, The Sun’s Chief EFL writer believes Corberan should have been included among the nominees as the Baggies are an “elephant in the room” in the race for the playoffs.

Speaking via X on Sunday (7 April) he said: “There are a couple of glaring omissions. What the hell is Carlos Corberan not in there for? What he has done with West Brom has been nothing short of miraculous.

“He had no resources to work with, a squad which I think is pretty much a midtable squad, but he’s managed to squeeze the best out of that group of players.

“They’re virtually guaranteed to be in the playoffs and they will be a big elephant in the room for anyone so I think he should have been nominated.”

Will West Brom win promotion to the Premier League this season?

While most Albion supporters will agree with Allen that Corberan more than deserved a nomination as this season’s manager of the year, the West Brom boss himself has admitted he doesn’t care for individual awards.

For Corberan, the most important thing between now and the end of the season is booking the Baggies’ place in the playoffs and potentially winning promotion back to the Premier League. Any other silverware would be a major bonus.

Even if the Spaniard had been nominated for the award, he would have likely missed out at the hands of McKenna who will almost certainly come out on top having taken Ipswich from League One to an automatic promotion battle.

Hopefully, Corberan will get his wish and the Baggies will book their place in the top six in the final weeks of the season and then they can look to put the cat amongst the pigeons in the playoffs. Who knows what they could achieve?
