West Brom: Jed Wallace praises Carlos Corberan despite Manager of the Year snub

West Brom winger Jed Wallace has said that Carlos Corberan is the best manager he has ever worked under after the Spaniard wasn’t on the shortlist for the Championship Manager of the Year.

West Brom sit fifth in the table with five games of the regular season left going into their match against Rotherham on 10 April at The Hawthorns.

Despite this, Liam Rosenior, whose Hull side currently sit 10th and seven points outside the top six, is one of the three coaches on the shortlist alongside Leeds boss Daniel Farke and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna.

Speaking to the Express and Star, Wallace said: “It was a bit surprising. For many of us, he is the best manager we have ever worked under. We all agree you don’t need an EFL nomination to show the job he has done.”

The Baggies’ impressive form this season has somewhat gone under the radar, thanks to the four-way tussle above them for the two automatic promotion spots.

However, while Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton have fought it out and are pushing for record-breaking points tallies in the process, West Brom have quietly been going about their business, cemented in fifth place for much of the campaign.

Norwich City’s form of late, mixed with Albion drawing their last three games in a row, has seen the sixth-placed Canaries move to within just a point of the Baggies, but Corberan’s side have the chance to close the gap on Southampton above them to six points against Rotherham.

As the club’s captain, Wallace has led from the front with five goals as a right-sided midfielder, including what looked to be a decisive second against Stoke on 6 April before the Potters fought back to draw 2-2.

Despite the poor run, Wallace feels Corberan’s side can rely on their next two straight home games to return to winning ways, and against a side rock-bottom of the table having already been relegated, you wouldn’t bet against the Baggies consolidating their hold on fifth place.
