Archie Kirton will hope he wowed Corberan with what he did in West Brom Under-18s v Reading
West Brom youngster Archie Kirton will hope he impressed first team head coach Carlos Corberan with his performance against Reading Under-18s.
West Brom Under-18s faced Reading at home in their penultimate game of the season on 5 May, with Southampton their final fixture on 11 May.
The Baggies youngsters slipped to a 3-2 defeat on their own patch – but the performance of Kirton proved a positive to take away from the game as he scored both his side’s goals.
The 18-year-old will hope the showing will have caught the eye of Corberan as the teenager works towards an eventual first-team breakthrough.
Can Archie Kirton break into the West Brom side?
Kirton is a versatile young player who has featured most frequently as either a right-back or a right winger at youth level.
This term, he has been used as a full-back slightly more often than as a wide attacker, but he was unleashed on the wing against Reading and showed off his ability as a winger with two goals in a tight game.
It remains unclear which position will turn out to be his best as a senior professional, but versatility is a trait highly prized by modern coaches and the teenager’s comfort in both roles can only boost his chances of making it in the first team.

However, those two goals were his first of the season and – even accounting for the time he has spent as a wide defender – he will need to show more consistent production across a full campaign of youth football to convince Corberan of his quality as a winger.
