Karlan Grant sends message to West Brom ahead of kick-off v Southampton

Karlan Grant has sent a good luck message to his West Brom colleagues ahead of their Championship play-off semi-final clash with Southampton.

The forward has spent the 2023-24 Championship campaign on loan with fellow second-tier side Cardiff City.

Grant is therefore ineligible to play any part in the play-offs against Southampton, with the first leg taking place at The Hawthorns on Sunday (12 May).

“Good luck to the boys today @wba,” he posted on his personal X account [12 May] shortly ahead of kick-off, along with a raising hand emoji.

Karlan Grant heading back to West Brom

It goes without saying that Grant’s season away from The Hawthorns was much needed given his lack of impact for the club last season.

The 26-year-old scored 18 goals and assisted six more in 44 league outings in 2021-22, but that dropped to three and none respectively in 31 last time out.

Grant is not liked by plenty of Albion fans, but his six goals and two assists for a bang average Cardiff side this season shows he can still do a job at this level.

If Albion manage to go up via the play-offs, it goes without saying that Grant has no future at The Hawthorns.

However, should it be another campaign in the second tier, could the versatile forward be considered as a back-up option by Carlos Corberan?

Right now, that is not exactly a question in the thoughts of West Brom supporters’ minds. All that matters is getting up to the Premier League and signing a higher-calibre quality of player altogether.
