Carlos Corberan rumours blasted as ‘unsubstantiated’ at West Brom
Carlton Palmer has blasted recent rumours suggesting West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan is unhappy at the Hawthorns, calling them “unsubstantiated”.
Corberan has been linked with positions at several other clubs, including Leicester City [The Telegraph].
However, Palmer feels Shilen Patel’s recent investment in the club’s training facilities could play a part in the Baggies’ bid to retain their highly-rated manager.
Speaking to Football League World (7 June), he said: “It appears that reports that were saying Carlos Corberan was unhappy at West Brom and was intending to move on to Birmingham, Burnley or Leicester are proving to be unsubstantiated.
“Apparently Carlos is in daily contact with the owner, and he’s committed to spending a significant amount of money on the training ground, which he is really pleased about.
“It is expected to still be a tricky window this summer, but the news that the owner is willing to invest moves some way to keeping Carlos Corberan happy.
“They had a fantastic season last season finishing in the play-offs, and he will hope that Shilen Patel will back him in the transfer market to enable him to push on to make a promotion charge next season.”
Can West Brom keep hold of Carlos Corberan?
It will certainly be cause for concern that Corberan has been strongly linked with three jobs elsewhere.
The rumours connecting the Spaniard with newly promoted Leicester and recently relegated Burnley will be the most concerning, given the financial muscle the pair boast following their recent Premier League involvement – from either direction.
These links are the product of the superb work Corberan has done at the Hawthorns, leading an unfancied side into the playoffs in 2023/24, where they were eventually beaten 3-1 on aggregate by Southampton, who went on to win promotion at Wembley.

The squad upheaval West Brom are set for this summer would be made all the more concerning without their manager to act as a guiding hand – but Patel’s investment in the club’s training infrastructure is perhaps a signal of his intent to reinforce the squad and keep Corberan happy.
Baggies fans will hope he succeeds.
