West Brom teen Harry Whitwell can hit new heights next season under Carlos Corberan

Carlos Corberan should give Harry Whitwell more chances at West Brom next season.

The 18-year-old central midfielder has made just one first-team appearance for the Baggies but is a highly regarded prospect.

And given the imminent departures of senior midfielders Nathaniel Chalobah and Yann M’Vila upon the expiry of their contracts this summer, head coach Corberan could have more minutes to hand out to the youngster in 2024/25.

Is Harry Whitwell good enough to play for West Brom?

Whitwell made his senior debut off the bench in the 4-1 win over Aldershot Town on 7 January last season, assisting academy graduate Tom Fellows for the Baggies’ fourth and final goal.

It was an eye-catching cameo from the teenager, who only turns 19 in November, and evidenced his considerable talent.

The central midfielder has been developed in a variety of midfield roles and has been a regular starter for the Under-21s, scoring two Premier League 2 goals and notching an assist in 18 appearances last season.

Okay Yokuslu and Alex Mowatt are Corberan’s established first-choice pair, while Jayson Molumby’s return from injury provides added depth.

But there is still room for Whitwell to be handed more minutes next term to aid his development ahead of either a breakout season or a loan move elsewhere.

If nothing else, he provides an internal solution to a depth issue, conserving cash that can then be spent bolstering other areas of the squad.
