Trabzonspor open official talks to sign West Brom star Okay Yokuslu

Trabzonspor have opened talks with the agents of Okay Yokuslu to sign him from West Brom, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.

Writing on his personal X account (8 July), the Turkish journalist reports that they have stepped in to strike a deal for the Turkey midfielder and have started “official negotiations” with the player’s representatives.

Besiktas are also interested in a deal for the 30-year-old, and have offered him a three-year deal but are yet to find an agreement on financial terms [Sports Digitale, 7 July].

West Brom risk losing Okay Yokuslu in summer transfer window

The Baggies are open to selling first-team players to strengthen their squad this summer [Express & Star, 27 May], but Carlos Corberan won’t want to sell any and everyone and Yokuslu will surely be among those he wants to keep.

The squad is far better with the experienced Turkey star, and with his experience, Corberan will be relying on him to help the squad develop in difficult times.

But with the club potentially needing to raise funds through sales despite their takeover, he may be someone who could be open to a move to play at a higher level.

Entering the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, this could be the final chance for West Brom to cash in but it would be very difficult to replace him adequately in the Championship.

It’s a tough decision to make for those in charge of the club but it may be a necessary one to make. A return to Turkey is on the cards now, and Yokuslu has a decision to make too on where he ends up.

In other West Brom news, the club want to sign Oliver Norwood on a free transfer.
