Carlos Corberan to make Fenton Heard decision as contract update emerges at West Brom
Carlos Corberan could contemplate adding 19-year-old Fenton Heard to the West Brom first-team squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The attacking midfielder ended the campaign as the Baggies’ highest goal contributor in the Premier League 2, notching seven goals and three assists while also being handed his senior debut.
Heard played 84 minutes as West Brom faced Aldershot Town in the FA Cup Third Round, and while he was unable to get on the scoresheet, he was involved in a rather convincing 4-1 win at The Hawthorns.
The club’s hierarchy has clearly been impressed with the youngster, with Heard now putting pen to paper on a new 12-month contract, which includes the option of a further year [West Brom].
Having made his debut last season, it could be time for Corberan to introduce him into the first-team set-up on a more regular basis. If that were not to happen, a loan spell could be an ideal alternative.
Carlos Corberan to promote Fenton Heard at West Brom?
Heard is a proven threat in the final third of the pitch, boasting 11 goals and 10 assists in 50 Under-18 matches before being promoted to Richard Beale’s Under-21s side.
While his numbers at the next level are not quite as impressive as his previous goal contributions, the 19-year-old is continuing to adapt his game and ply his trade against different opponents.
Though Heard will certainly not be ready to secure a regular role in Corberan’s starting XI anytime soon, being promoted to the first team next season could boost his development to the next level.
He will also be able to learn from the likes of John Swift, Jed Wallace and Tom Fellows, who have all been instrumental for the Baggies in recent seasons.
The club are clearly very positive about Heard’s future, which will mean the Baggies manager will need to make an important decision before the 2024/25 campaign kicks off.
