West Brom chequebook update as new transfers wanted at The Hawthorns
Dan Plumley insists West Brom will likely continue to target the free-agent market in the summer transfer window.
The Baggies have already signed Torbjorn Heggem from IF Brommapojkarna as well as Ousmane Diakité and Joe Wildsmith on free transfers.
The football finance expert admitted that even Shilen Patel completing his takeover doesn’t mean the chequebook will fly open once again after previous financial challenges.
“I think that is logical,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“If you look at the situation at West Brom, you’ve had the financial challenges over the last few years following relegation, you’ve had all the issues with the ownership which is thankfully now resolved but that doesn’t mean that the chequebook is necessarily open again.
“The EFL version of profit and sustainability regulations in the Championship, we know that clubs and the league itself are looking to shift to a different mode of financial regulation and the Premier League may do that as well, so there is a lot of changing landscape in terms of regulations to come.
“For a club like West Brom, that means you’ve got to work realistically within the parameters of your club and the market, so I get the feeling that certainly this year, and probably into the January window as well, you’re probably looking towards that free transfer market and of course, if they can match last season and hit the play-offs, you’ve got the opportunity to get promoted to the Premier League.”

West Brom to target new transfers
Andi Weimann is another potential target for the Baggies after his contract expired at Bristol City following his loan spell at The Hawthorns [Alex Crook].
It will be an interesting end to the summer transfer window, with the potential for numerous exits, as well as new signings for the club to deal with.
Wildsmith, Diakite and Heggem have been announced, but it looks as though plenty more could follow.
