Okay Yokuslu could stay at West Brom after brand new transfer twist

Okay Yokuslu could be set to stay at West Brom this summer after Besiktas withdrew their interest in signing the Turkish midfielder.

Express and Star shared on 16 July that Besiktas chairman Huseyin Yusel confirmed there is “zero” chance of a deal happening between the two clubs.

Yokuslu is yet to return to first-team training at The Hawthorns following the end of his EURO 2024 exploits with Turkey, with reports of a potential transfer being heavily mooted so far this summer.

Trabzonspor have enquired over the 30-year-old, as have Hull City closer to home, but Albion have been given a boost by the withdrawal of reported front-runners Besiktas [Gokem Ozcan, 9 July].

Given he featured in every Championship match for the club last season, it’s hardly surprising that the Baggies want to keep Yokuslu if they can this summer as they look to build on their fifth-placed finish.

Only Cedric Kipre and Darnell Furlong made as many appearances as Yokuslu, with the former also having a question mark over his Albion future following the expiry of his contract on 30 June [Express and Star, 22 June].

While Carlos Corberan will be loathe to lose his defensive midfield lynchpin in Yokuslu this summer, the Spaniard could potentially fund three new transfers by selling him [Cannock Chronicle, 13 July].

That leaves Corberan, and Yokuslu, with a decision to make regarding the future of the star midfielder, who would join a lengthy list of departures if he does leave the club.

While rebuffing the interests of Trabzonspor and Hull City would show that the Baggies are deadly serious about keeping together a promotion-chasing squad, it remains to be seen if they’ll be better served by selling Yokuslu.
