West Brom-linked Tom Cannon sends message as Baggies loan deal finalised

Leicester City’s Tom Cannon sent a message to Lewis Dobbin via social media after the 21-year-old joined West Brom on loan.

The Baggies confirmed [6 August] that the Aston Villa forward has arrived in the Midlands on a season-long loan, having only just left Everton in a £9million deal [BBC Sport].

Cannon is another player linked with a move to The Hawthorns, according to The Sun [28 July], with the Baggies challenging Sheffield United and Stoke City for the striker’s signature.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (7 August), he wrote: “Best of luck, brother,” with a love heart emoji.

West Brom to sign Tom Cannon on loan?

The Baggies are currently under heavy Profit and Sustainability Rules pressure, having been placed under an EFL-imposed business plan [Rob Dorsett], leading to key striker Brandon Thomas-Asante being sold to Coventry City.

Okay Yokuslu and Conor Townsend have also found new homes ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, helping the club avoid punishments due to PSR breaches, but more outgoings could be possible.

This left Devante Cole, Karlan Grant and Josh Maja as the only striker options for Carlos Corberan before the signing of Dobbin, with Daryl Dike yet to return from injury.

Cannon could be a very good option for the Baggies, with the 21-year-old unlikely to be given many chances in the Premier League alongside Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka and Bobby Decordova-Reid.

The Foxes’ striker has just three goals in 16 appearances since leaving Goodison Park last summer but showed plenty of quality and talent in the Championship last term.

Lewis Dobbin, Tom Cannon, West Brom

He bagged an unexpected brace against Huddersfield Town in January before a winning goal against Millwall in the FA Cup just five days after, though has not hit the back of the net since.

A move to The Hawthorns could certainly help his development, and bringing a Republic of Ireland international to the club would be a rather decent option for Corberan next season.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies could solve their PSR issues with the sale of Tom Fellows as a Crystal Palace development emerges.
