Chris Lepkowski is concerned by a "red flag" being shown by Carlos Corberan after rumours surfaced surrounding his future at West Brom.

Rumours of the Spaniard's unhappiness at The Hawthorns emerged before the opening Championship match against QPR on Saturday 10 August.

Corberan was linked with an exit during the summer, with Enzo Maresca's move to Chelsea leaving the managerial job at Leicester open [Tom Collomosse], but the move never came to fruition with Steve Cooper taking over instead.

Speaking via The Liquidator podcast on Monday (12 August), Lepkowski said: "When I went on social media [on Saturday], there were various rumours and people posting and deleting things. I made some enquiries but there weren't any concerns that something had happened.

"I don't know what the actual situation was. I'm always a little wary of Carlos Corberan's quotes, which we've seen before when managers start talking about how much they love the club, and how much they love the fans. It's almost as if they're priming the fans.

"A lot of people interpret it as Corberan being on board and being invested, so maybe I'm cynical because I see those quotes as a little bit of a red flag. I hope I'm just being on the negative side.

"We have to assume that, if anything happened, it was resolved very quickly."

Carlos Corberan to leave West Brom after opening day victory?

Of course, Baggies fans would be devastated to see Corberan leave The Hawthorns, especially with the season having already started, which explains the chaos on social media.

The 41-year-old has done an incredible job since arriving from Olympiacos in October of 2022, helping to push the Baggies into the Championship play-off spots and helping the fans to believe.

This has mostly come during very tight restrictions under Lai Guochuan's reign, and even despite Shilen Patel's recent takeover, the Baggies are still being pressured by financial concerns.

With West Brom now being placed under an EFL-imposed business plan, as per Rob Dorsett, the club are on course to breach PSR regulations, which has seen a plethora of first-team players sold this summer.

No manager will be pleased to see so many star players sold in the same transfer window, but it does not seem to have slowed the team down too much, having claimed an exciting 3-1 win over QPR on Saturday 10 August.
