Finance Expert shares if West Brom points deduction on the cards after PSR bombshell
There is no guarantee West Brom would be deducted points if they breach Profit and Sustainability rules, Dan Plumley has said.
It was reported by Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett this month that the Baggies have been placed under an EFL-imposed business plan with the Baggies currently on course to breach PSR.
Consequently, the Baggies have to agree transfer and wage costs with the EFL, though – with the club now under the leadership of Shilen Patel – Dorsett said there is no danger of bills not being paid.
In an exclusive interview with West Brom News, finance expert Plumley outlined whether a breach would result in points being deducted.
He said: “It can vary, it does depend on the way the EFL views the situation.
“They don’t have to points deduct but they can ultimately. It’s not a straight shot, it’s not as easy as saying it’s an automatic points deduction, there’ll be other factors taken into account.
“Most of it will centre around the old ownership structure, a lot will also centre around the fact they’re engaging with the EFL around this process.
“It doesn’t necessarily make it a straight hit in terms of points deduction, there will be other factors taken into account. So, it’s not an easy one to predict in that regard.”
West Brom working hard to comply with EFL
Dorsett said in his report of the situation that the club have been with the EFL for around 18 months, so the Baggies have been working hard to ensure financial compliance.
The good news is the under Patel the club are on a much better financial footing and, although this is obviously unwelcome news, it doesn’t feel like any sort of death knell.

Obviously, the best solution would be that West Brom manage to comply and avoid any charges and hopefully that is the case.
There is no need to not proceed with optimism under the Patel regime, and a great opening-day Championship victory at QPR should only lift the mood further.
