Tony Brown: West Brom may have new ‘cult hero’ at The Hawthorns

Tony Brown believes West Brom fans could have a new “cult hero” in summer signing Torbjorn Heggem.

Baggies great Brown was reacting to a composed piece of defending from the left-back during Saturday’s (17 August) clash with Leeds United.

Heggem has slotted in well since arriving from Swedish top-flight outfit Brommapojkarna last month.

Asked by Steve Hermon on BBC Radio WM [17 August, 1:12pm] if the defender could take on cult-like status, Brown said: “He could. With those dangly legs and his style of play.

“It’s a great bill of skill there to bring the ball down.”

Torbjorn Heggem a great addition for West Brom

Not a lot was known about Heggem when he joined last month, but he has taken little time to get going at The Hawthorns.

The Norwegian is a real rarity in that he cost the Baggies a transfer fee, so clearly he is someone the club had their sights set on for a while.

Albion’s squad may have taken a bit of a battering with some big-name exits recently, but those who have come in are making an impression.

In Heggem, there is a Jonas Olsson-like player who looks like he will only get better the longer he is in the division.

It was a bit of a risky signing in that he was a relative nobody, but full credit to the club for spotting a possible gem.

In other West Brom news, Brown blasted a “crazy” moment involving John Swift against Leeds United.
