David Prutton predicts Stoke City v West Brom scoreline in Championship contest

Sky Sports presenter David Prutton has predicted a win for West Brom against Stoke City in the Championship on Saturday (24 August).

Speaking on the Essential EFL podcast [22 August], Prutton has called a 1-0 victory for Carlos Corberan’s side, as he backs the Baggies to keep successive clean sheets and scoop another three points on the board.

Both fixtures between the two sides were drawn in the Championship last season, but now Albion are hoping to go one better against a Potters side convincingly beaten by Watford last weekend.

Sky colleague Simeon Gholam posed the question: “[Albion] have avoided defeat in 10 of their last 13 away league games against Stoke, what’s the score going to be at the bet365 Stadium?”

Prutton duly responded: “West Brom to win 1-0.”

West Brom look to maintain unbeaten league start

Potentially to some surprise given an uncertain transfer window and financial summer, West Brom have begun 2024-25 well in the league.

A positive result in Staffordshire would reinforce that, with Albion slight favourites heading into the encounter after already securing an away win on the opening weekend, via Josh Maja’s hat-trick at QPR.

Corberan will be confident, and if history is anything to go by, the club’s fairly strong recent record in away visits to a notoriously tough ground will bode well.

It’s unlikely at this stage that any new additions from Thursday onwards will be registered in time to face Steven Schumacher’s side, but any paperwork from up until deadline day the club will be hoping to be completed in time to face Swansea City next week.

As with almost any Championship fixture, it is borderline guesswork to predict at the bet365, but the Baggies will be hoping to emerge with at least a point to take back to the Black Country.

In other West Brom news, a new deal is secured for a young midfielder.
