Carlos Corberan makes West Brom transfer plea ahead of deadline day

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has said he still wants the club to make two new signings before the transfer window shuts on 30 August.

Speaking prior to his side’s match against Stoke City, as per The Express and Star [23 August], Corberan said that in order to make up for the players the club have sold or released, two new additions are needed.

Highlighting the club’s lack of right-backs behind Darnell Furlong in the pecking order, Corberan added that his squad is flexible enough for other players to operate in the position if needs be.

He said: “We need to make two movements, because just talking about the players we lost this summer – we need to replace to have a competitive squad.

“With two players we can cover this. Even if we don’t bring a specific right-back like last year with Pipa, because sometimes you can or cannot, we are still going to find solutions if a problem happens.”

Last two transfers must come in the right areas for West Brom

Corberan is hardly laying down the gauntlet when publicly expressing his desire for the club to sign two more players before the window shuts on 30 August, but he’ll ascertain that they must be the right fit.

With midfielder Uros Racic having arrived on loan from Sassuolo and Callum Styles set to join him having undergone a medical on 23 August [DOOD], it remains to be seen which other areas Corberan will target.

A striker is reportedly top of the billing for the Spaniard in the wake of Brandon Thomas-Asante’s exit to Coventry, though they’re yet to return with a second offer for Will Keane after a first bid was rejected [George Hodgson, 21 August].

Left-back looks to have been covered off with the additions of Barnsley utility Styles and Gianluca Frabotta from Juventus, but questions will linger on the right side unless cover for Furlong arrives.

Gaps in defence, midfield and attack have all been somewhat filled so far this summer, but Corberan and his side still have no time to waste as he looks to finalise a squad which can challenge for promotion.

In other West Brom news, a player who shone at The Hawthorns last season could make a return with one of their promotion rivals.
