West Brom eye loan for Ipswich Town ace who made Premier League history

West Brom have made an enquiry to sign Ipswich Town’s Ali Al-Hamadi on loan, according to DOOD.

The Baggies insider reported via X on Monday (26 August) that the deal would not include a purchase option for the 22-year-old, who made Premier League history earlier this month.

After replacing Liam Delap in the Tractor Boys’ opening-day defeat to Liverpool on Saturday 17 August, he became the first-ever Iraqi player to appear in the competition [Premier League website].

West Brom eye deal to sign Ali Al-Hamadi on loan

Despite making just 14 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side in the Championship last season, with only one being in the starting XI, he caught the eye of many clubs with four goals.

This came after he arrived from AFC Wimbledon, where he scored an incredible 27 goals in 48 appearances after just one year at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Al-Hamadi has experienced a sharp rise to the Premier League, which may be a concern for the 22-year-old’s development, and why the club may be open to a loan move to The Hawthorns this summer.

Ipswich have brought in multiple attacking stars, such as Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap, so the Iraqi international might be surplus to requirement.

While Carlos Corberan has Devante Cole, Josh Maja and Mo Faal for the striker position, the departure of Brandon Thomas-Asante will still be seen as a major blow, so it is understandable to see the links to Al-Hamadi.

The Baggies have certainly not struggled after losing their leading goalscorer from the last two seasons, beating QPR and Stoke City while drawing with Leeds United, but it would be silly to turn down the chance to sign another star on loan.

In addition to this, although Maja has hit the ground running this season, including a hat-trick against QPR, it would be a smart decision to prepare after his recent injury record.
