Paddy McNair sends message to Carlos Corberan loud and clear at West Brom as footage emerges
Paddy McNair’s only appearance for West Brom since arriving on loan came in their 2-1 EFL Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town.
The 29-year-old has only joined the Baggies until December when he will return to newly formed MLS side San Diego FC, being added into the league in 2025 as an expansion team.
With the idea of keeping fit and match-ready for his move to America, McNair has joined Carlos Corberan’s squad on a short-term loan, yet he has only played 61 minutes so far.
Despite this, the defender has still been called up to Northern Ireland’s squad during the international break, and it looks to be the correct decision after hitting the back of the net against Luxembourg.
Carlos Corberan receives message loud and clear from Paddy McNair at West Brom
Pairing up with Sunderland ace Daniel Ballard in defence, McNair opened the scoring against Luxembourg, only for his centre-back partner to double the score just six minutes later.
While Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi look to be Corberan’s first-choice selections in defence, McNair will be hoping that his international displays will allow him to prove himself at The Hawthorns.
The last-gasp addition of Mason Holgate on loan from Everton this summer might make that a little harder for the 29-year-old, but McNair’s goal threat cannot be ignored.
The centre-back scored 14 goals during his six-year spell with Middlesbrough, making 219 appearances, and even scored seven times in 28 matches during his time with Sunderland.
Although Josh Maja, Tom Fellows and Karlan Grant are more than capable of hitting the back of the net, it would not hurt to add some more goal threat from corners, set-pieces and long throw-ins.
McNair will have another chance on international duty to prove himself – a more difficult fixture against Bulgaria – and Corberan will be watching closely to see how he does under pressure.
