Alex Palmer has come under fire from West Brom supporters following the Baggies' 3-0 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Carlos Corberan's side moved to the top of the Championship table on Sunday (15 September) as an early goal from Josh Maja and a brace from Alex Mowatt secured all three points of Albion on the south coast.

The Baggies have managed to pick up 13 points from their opening five games in the league and currently sit a point ahead of Sunderland who lost for the first time this term against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (14 September).

What happened to Alex Palmer in West Brom v Portsmouth?

Although Albion were in command for almost the full 90 minutes at Fratton Park, Palmer's distribution with the ball at his feet left an awful lot to be desired and supporters were quick to take to social media to slam the keeper.

One fan said: "Alex Palmer is rotten with the ball at his feet" while another said, "Palmer's distribution is horrendous at times".

Last season, Palmer was quite easily one of West Brom's best and most consistent players as he managed to keep 18 clean sheets to win the Golden Glove award alongside Leeds United's Illan Meslier.

But the Baggies' stopper's kicking is a cause for concern. While his poor distribution didn't come back to bite Albion on Sunday, it could have potentially cost Corberan's side a vital three points in the race for promotion this season.

Hopefully, Palmer won't continue to take these risks between now and the end of the season. At some point, it is going to come back to the bite Baggies stopper when a striker latches onto one of his loose passes.
