Carlos Corberan told to speak with Darnell Furlong at West Brom after ’embarrassing’ moment
Darnell Furlong’s “embarrassing play-acting” in West Brom versus Portsmouth must be addressed by Carlos Corberan, according to Ian Darke.
The ESPN commentator posted on X (16 September) to say that there was no need for Furlong’s “play-acting” during Albion’s 3-0 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park, after a body-check on Adam Lang.
Furlong’s quick throw-in to Tom Fellows led to Josh Maja opening the scoring inside the first 60 seconds on the south coast, but his overreaction to the clash with Lang drew the ire of Portsmouth’s fans.
Darke’s post said: “Albion boss (Corberan) needs a quiet word with Furlong after his embarrassing play-acting. Good player – Doesn’t need it.”
Darnell Furlong continuing to impress at West Brom
While a quiet word from Corberan could see Furlong cut out his alleged play-acting, the Spaniard will have little else to say after yet another impressive performance from his right-back.
Furlong has shone for the table-topping Baggies so far this season, and was their man-of-the-match in a 1-0 win over Swansea City prior to the international break.
Forming an unplayable combination with England Under-21st youngster Tom Fellows on the right flank, Furlong’s strong performances have led to talks of a new contract being opened.
While Fellows’ four assists so far this season have seen him take much of the credit, Furlong has been a constant figure in everything good done by the Albion academy product.
Cutting out the theatrics will only see Furlong’s stock rise further in the eyes of Baggies supporters, and Corberan will also be keen to ensure his form continues as part of an unbeaten West Brom side.
