Siobhan Hodgetts-Still shares West Brom Women pride despite defeat v Rugby Borough
Siobhan Hodgetts-Still was “really proud” of her West Brom Women’s side despite a 5-0 defeat to Rugby Borough on Sunday (15 September).
A Yasmin Mosby brace, alongside goals from Lily Greenslade and Angelina Nixon, and a late fifth goal saw the Baggies condemned to a disappointing defeat.
Despite conceding five at home, and not managing to hit the back of the net, manager Hodgetts-Still saw plenty of positive signs, sharing them at full-time.
Speaking after the result on Monday (16 September), she said: “We spoke about this at the end of the game. Individually and collectively, we know we have to be better in possession. We worked hard to win the ball back but didn’t do enough to retain and use the ball, which was a credit to Rugby’s shape.
“I have to acknowledge our resilience. At no point did the team stop running, pressing, and trying to impact the game. That passion and character of this group is something I’m really proud of.”
West Brom Women show positive signs despite Rugby Borough thrashing
Hodgetts-Still’s side are bound to be disjointed following a summer of change, adding several new faces to the squad during the summer transfer market.
Once the players learn to play with each other, forming relationships and an understanding on the pitch, the Baggies will be able to put on a much better show than the 5-0 defeat.
With Ella Haughey, and duo Rhianne Oakley and Seren Watkins added from Cardiff City, there are plenty of exciting talents at Hodgetts-Still’s disposal this season.
The Baggies have a “special” Black Country derby against Wolves on the horizon, and the team will be keen to stamp their mark at The Hawthorns against one of their biggest rivals.

They cannot afford a similar result against Wolves on Sunday 13 October and must take inspiration from their 4-0 win over Sporting Khalsa.
Luckily for the Baggies, they have the majority of the season left to prove exactly what they’re capable of on the pitch and put the 5-0 loss behind them.
