Darren Bent makes West Brom promotion admission in new Carlos Corberan verdict
Darren Bent has admitted he believes that West Brom are one of the favourites for promotion this season in a new Carlos Corberan verdict.
The Baggies currently sit top of the Championship after five matches and are looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they face Plymouth Argyle at The Hawthorns on Saturday (21 September).
Although nothing is set in stone yet, talkSPORT pundit Bent admits he has been impressed by Albion so far this term and has been quick to laud Corberan for his work since arriving at The Hawthorns.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (20 September, 18:42) he said: “You look at the two sides and West Brom have got off to a fantastic start.
“Just gone to Portsmouth as well and won 3-0 and I think that’s probably why. You look at them and they’re one of the favourites for promotion.
“I like their manager Carlos Corberan, I’ve always liked him, we heard Jake Livermore talking about him and his attention to detail and when you look at their squad as well they’ve got some really good players as well.
“I think West Brom will win [against Plymouth].”
Will West Brom win promotion to the Premier League at The Hawthorns?
It’s safe to say the mood around The Hawthorns before a ball was kicked this summer was nowhere near as positive as the atmosphere that Corberan and his side have created in the opening weeks of the Championship campaign.
Although the Baggies did manage to add to their squad in the transfer window, they did lose several key stars after their playoff defeat to Southampton and some fans were fearful that they had left themselves short of quality.
It may only be a month or so into the new season but the early indications suggest that there is still more than enough ability in Corberan’s ranks to get this side out of the second tier and into the Premier League.

However, nothing is won in the first five games of the season so Albion need to maintain this unbeaten start against Argyle on Saturday. Wayne Rooney’s side will come into this game full of confidence having beaten Southampton last time out.
These are the sort of games West Brom simply must win if they want to win promotion this term and there is absolutely no reason that they shouldn’t be coming away with all three points.
