Carlos Corberan confirms Grady Diangana injury status ahead of West Brom v Millwall

Carlos Corberan has given an update on Grady Diangana’s injury situation at West Brom before the clash with Millwall at The Hawthorns.

Speaking in his press conference two days out from kick-off on Saturday (5 October), Corberan confirmed that Diangana had trained in the last two sessions and is “50-50” to be involved against Millwall.

The Albion boss had previously cast doubt on the DR Congolese winger’s fitness amid a new shoulder problem, with Diangana making just five substitute appearances so far this season.

In quotes reported by Birmingham Live [3 October], Corberan said: “He trained Thursday and he trained Wednesday, too.

“I didn’t talk with the medical staff to see how they see him before the game, but I think he’s still an option to be involved – let’s say 50-50.”

Grady Diangana will hope to make his mark for West Brom v Millwall

The Baggies were blunt to say the least in their 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Tuesday (1 October), and hardly laid a glove on the visitors until it was too late on their way to suffering a second consecutive defeat.

Out wide, Jed Wallace came under particular fire for his performance, and The Hawthorns faithful will be hoping to see Diangana back fit and on-form once again to provide a different option.

Corberan’s decision to start Wallace ahead of the enigmatic Tom Fellows perhaps highlights Albion’s lack of depth without Diangana, who is capable of playing across the frontline in the Spaniard’s 4-2-3-1.

With the recently-returned Mikey Johnston yet to displace an in-form Karlan Grant on the opposite flank, however, Diangana’s return to the starting XI will not be straightforward.

That talk is premature for the moment, though, and with doubt still being cast over his involvement against Millwall, a spot on the bench will be a sure sign of the Albion star’s improving fitness.
