Cardiff new manager: Ex-West Brom boss now favourite to win job

Former West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has been tipped as the favourite to become the next Cardiff City manager, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

The ex-Baggies boss has been priced at 3/1 by Bet Victor to take over in the Welsh capital after Erol Bulut was sacked on 22 September.

Former Plymouth Argyle managers Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher follow the Croatian alongside current interim boss Omer Riza at 5/1.

Reading boss Ruben Selles and Michael Beale follow at 6/1 while Welshman and Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones comes in at 12/1.

There are other West Brom links to the Bluebirds with John O’Shea priced at 16/1 and Tony Mowbray at 20/1 to become the new manager at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The former West Ham boss is a well-loved figure at The Hawthorns after guiding the Albion to promotion from the Championship in 2020.

Supporters still don’t really understand why the club’s hierarchy opted to replace him with Sam Allardyce in the Premier League after drawing against Manchester City.

This eventually led to the Baggies going down without a fight and the Croatian hasn’t truly hit the same heights since.

In the four years since leaving the Midlands, Bilic has managed Beijing Guoan, Watford and Al Fateh in a global football management tour.

It now appears that after a stint in Saudi Arabia, the 56-year-old is going to return to England on a mission to carry Cardiff away from the foot of the Championship.

It will be interesting to see the former Albion boss facing Carlos Corberan’s side with fans sure to give him a positive reception if he is to land the job with the Bluebirds.
