Labour MP makes speech about West Brom in Parliament
Labour MP Sarah Coombes expressed her pride in West Brom in her speech in the Parliament on Thursday, 10 October.
Making her maiden speech in the Parliament, Coombes light-heartedly expressed her disappointment at The Hawthorns being put in the constituency of Smethwick.
The MP highlighted the club’s importance to the people of West Brom, while also quipping about their recent fall from the top of the table.
In a clip posted via her X account, she said: “For most people when they hear the words West Bromwich, the next word they think of is Albion.
“Unfortunately that didn’t prove true for the Boundary Commission who put the Hawthorns in the next-door constituency.
“But that doesn’t change the special place that West Bromwich Albion holds in the hearts of my constituents.
“Our historic club that puts us on the map, one of the 12 founding members of the Football League, until last Tuesday, top of the Championship table.
“Let’s not talk about what’s happened since.”
Should West Brom consider expanding The Hawthorns?
The Hawthorns is a great source of pride for the West Brom faithful and they will no doubt be disappointed to see the stadium being put in another constituency.
Meanwhile, there has been talk about the stadium being expanded among the fans recently.
It came after Leeds United announced their plans to increase the capacity at Elland Road to 53,000.
While an expansion may sound exciting, The Hawthorns is not in need of one as things stand, with its 26,850-seater facility proving sufficient.
As per Transfermarkt, West Brom have had an average attendance of 24,797 for their five home games in the Championship this season.
Nevertheless, Coombes’ comments are keeping the Baggies supporters engaged over the international break.
They will undoubtedly be keen to see Carlos Corberan and Co. return to action against Oxford United on 19 October.
Having failed to win each of their last three games, the team will be determined to return to winning ways.
