West Brom legend Ben Foster rages over Wolves controversy

West Brom legend Ben Foster has been left in a rage after a controversial incident in Wolves’ clash with Manchester City.

Albion’s Black Country rivals continued their winless start to the Premier League season as they were beaten 2-1 by City on Sunday (20 October) thanks to a late winner from John Stones.

The England international’s last-minute header was allowed after a lengthy VAR check, but former Baggies star Foster insists that it shouldn’t have stood after Bernardo Silva made contact with Jose Sa.

Writing on X on Sunday (20 October) Foster wrote: “I’m far from a WOLVES fan… And people will probably say I’m sticking up for the GK union…. BUT… That John Stones goal should’ve been DISALLOWED.

“Bernardo Silva backs into Jose Sa which takes him out of a comfortable ‘set’ position.”

Are West Brom and Wolves rivals?

While the majority of West Brom supporters are unlikely to ever side with Wolves if they can avoid it, the decision in Sunday afternoon’s game will have divided fans up and down the country.

Yes, Silva does make contact with Sa as the ball is crossed into Stones, but by the time the England international heads the ball, the Manchester City man is well out of his way and doesn’t interfere with play.

Of course, if a striker did that to Alex Palmer in the lead-up to a goal against Albion, Baggies fans would be fuming with the referee.

But on this occasion, Foster is probably the only man with a connection to The Hawthorns to feel any sympathy for Gary O’Neil’s side.

Although West Brom fans will be hoping for another Black Country derby next season, the signs early on this term suggest that it is more likely to happen in the Championship than the Premier League with Wolves still rooted to the bottom of the table.

If Albion can get back to winning ways after a poor run of form, they may even trade positions with O’Neil’s side when May rolls around.
