Alex Mowatt has new midfield partner after what West Brom ace did v Oxford United
Alex Mowatt may be forced into a new midfield partnership at West Brom after Uros Racic’s display against Oxford United on Saturday (19 October).
The 29-year-old has been deployed in a duo with either Racic, Jayson Molumby or Ousmane Diakite so far this season, with Carlos Corberan struggling to stick to a definite pairing.
Given the chance, fans would likely pick Molumby to be Mowatt’s partner in the middle of the park, but following the 1-1 draw with the U’s, the manager’s decision might be swaying.
Mowatt and Racic looked to have created an unbreakable bond at the Kassam Stadium, at least until the Baggies were undone by a Dane Scarlett goal in the second minute of added time.
Despite dropping two points, Corberan will feel that neither of the midfield duo should be axed ahead of the Blackburn Rovers clash on Wednesday 23 October.
Uros Racic earns West Brom starting XI spot after Oxford United display
With three goals already this season, and proving himself at the base of midfield, Mowatt is one of the first names on the team sheet, but Corberan needs a partner for him.
Against Oxford United, Racic won the Man of the Match award, as per FotMob, earning an 8.2 rating, completing 100 per cent of his dribbles (2/2), making five recoveries and winning 75 per cent of his ground duels.
Even despite a passing accuracy of 77 per cent, far below Mowatt’s 88 per cent accuracy [FotMob], 12 of those passes were made into the final third, helping to create two chances and even taking three shots.
Molumby is still a decent option, while Diakite needs further development before playing a more important role, but Corberan looks to have found a duo who he can stick with throughout the season.
