Corberan has no choice but to axe Tom Fellows for West Brom clash v Blackburn

Carlos Corberan must drop Tom Fellows from his West Brom starting XI against Blackburn Rovers as he looks to end the winless run.

The Baggies were atop the Championship at the start of the month, but two defeats and two draws in their last four games have seen them drop to fifth place.

There is perhaps not anything more unforgiving than a promotion race and West Brom must return to winning ways as soon as possible if they do not want to see their Premier League aspirations slip away.

Taking recent form into account, it is time for Corberan to consider axing players, but Fellows tops the list.

Time for Tom Fellows to face West Brom axe

Fellows has a good reputation among West Brom fans, having provided five assists in ten league appearances this season, but he has largely been a passenger in the team in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old started on the right side of midfield in the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Oxford United on Saturday (19 October). He, though, was replaced by Jed Wallace after being ineffective during the 70 minutes he was on the pitch.

According to FotMob, he only won one of his seven duels (12.5 per cent). Furthermore, he lost possession six times (Sofascore), which is particularly disappointing as he registered only 25 touches of the ball.

Fellows had little influence in attack as well, with only one of his 14 successful passes played into the final third. Both his dribble attempts were unsuccessful and so were his two crosses.

That was not a one-off performance as he was also futile in Albion’s previous four games, although he provided the assist for Josh Maja’s goal in the 3-2 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on 28 September.

With summer signing Mikey Johnston waiting for an extended run of games in the starting lineup, it is high time Corberan benched Fellows and, hopefully, he makes that call at Blackburn.

In other West Brom news, this player has been mooted to be unhappy with Corberan.
