Diangana and Johnston accused of going ‘AWOL’ at West Brom – ‘Not good’
Adrian Clarke has described West Brom duo Grady Diangana and Mikey Johnston as “AWOL” after a string of underwhelming performances for the Baggies.
The Baggies made a flying start to the Championship season but are now winless in six second-tier games, failing to score in four of those.
Diangana and Johnston were singled out by Clarke as particularly flattering to deceive for Corberan’s men in recent weeks.
Speaking on the What the EFL podcast (31 October), Clarke said: “If there was an award for the least impressive team in the top six, I’m pretty sure they would win it.
“It’s guys like Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana who have been red-hot at certain times for West Brom.
“They have kind of gone AWOL. They are missing in action. They need to get a little bit more out of them. One goal in five matches is what West Brom have scored. Not good.”
West Brom need to get out of this horrid run of form… fast
Carlos Corberan’s side occupied the top spot in the Championship earlier in the campaign but now find themselves eight points from Sunderland in first place.
West Brom’s six-game winless run has damaged their hopes of automatic promotion, though there is still plenty of time remaining in the top six and Corberan has a proven track record of getting his teams into the top six – including doing so with the Baggies last season.
Defensively, the Baggies haven’t had any issues. However, offensively is where their woes lie and much of that is down to the lack of creativity in their performances.
Players like Johnston and Diangana have bags and bags of ability, the former demonstrating that while on loan last season although none of that has been on show in the current campaign.

Josh Maja has shown his ability as a natural goalscorer but the lack of service in recent games has made his role in the team much more difficult.
The Baggies have failed to score in four of their last six games and that must change urgently.
