Torbjorn Heggem was transfer bargain after what he has done for West Brom
West Brom fans will remember plenty of transfer failures in recent years, but Torbjorn Heggem certainly doesn’t fit into that category.
The Baggies signed the Norwegian in the summer from IF Brommapojkarna for £525,000 [Expressen, 25 June], and since then, the defender has slotted right into Carlos Corberan’s team.
At a time when teams are being forced to shell out massive amounts of money for mediocre talent, the hierarchy at The Hawthorns should be proud of the Heggem deal.
The centre-back, who has mainly been deployed on the left-hand side of the defence by Corberan, has started in every Championship fixture for West Brom this season.
With the 25-year-old in the backline, the Baggies have conceded eight goals in the league in the current campaign, with just one at home.
The defender boasts the record for making the most successful tackles in the Championship so far [WBA, 5 November], and his performances have been consistently impressive.
Torbjorn Heggem is a bargain for West Brom
Heggem’s latest outing came against Luton Town on 1 November in a 1-1 draw, with the defender playing centrally alongside Mason Holgate.
In the draw, the Norway international showed composure on the ball, with 80 per cent passing accuracy, making eight passes into the final third and five accurate long balls, as per FotMob.
Defensively, the 25-year-old was a rock, winning 100 per cent of his tackles, making eight clearances, three interceptions and winning 10 of his 12 duels.
Fans could be forgiven for not being excited about Heggem’s signing at the time this summer, but the Norwegian has already proven he is more than a bargain.
