West Brom could sell high-value player as PSR breach update revealed
West Brom may be forced to sell one of their best players due to a potential breach of PSR, according to Chris Lepkowski.
In August, it was revealed that the Baggies were placed under an EFL-imposed business plan [Rob Dorsett, 3 August] with transfer and wage expenses required to be agreed with league authorities.
An update has emerged from the club’s former head of media Lepkowski and he warned that the club are dangerously close to breaching PSR and more cost-cutting measures are imminent.
Lepkowski replied to a post on X about the financial implications of sacking manager Carlos Corberan, saying: “Don’t think the penny has dropped with many fans just how close we are to a PSR breach within this three-year cycle.
“The next accounts – for last season; but due in 2025 – will be brutal. We can’t afford unnecessary spend.”
When asked whether he thinks the club will end up breaching the rules, he replied that he does not but more savings will be necessary.
“No, I don’t – mainly because of the cost-cutting that’s happened and will no doubt come. I also think they might have to sell someone of value.”
West Brom should sell Josh Maja to avoid PSR breach
With the club still at risk of a PSR breach and Lepkowski warning that a key player may have to be sold, Josh Maja is a player who could be sacrificed in January to ease the concerns.
The Nigerian forward has scored 10 goals and notched one assist in 17 Championship matches so far this season.
This form has not gone unnoticed, with Spanish sides Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo linked with a £16 million move for the Baggies star.

It would be a huge blow for Carlos Corberan’s side. Maja is their top contributor in the league by a considerable distance, with Tom Fellows’ six overall goal contributions five behind the former Sunderland star.
However, a potential £16m windfall is too good to turn down with the club in such a precarious financial position.
The alternative is that Maja fires the club to promotion and the PSR problem goes away but that is a huge gamble that could backfire massively.
