West Brom promotion hopes to swing on Josh Maja transfer decision
West Brom must navigate January without selling Josh Maja or Tom Fellows to have any chance of sustaining a place in the Championship top six.
The duo have been the most prolific individual combination in the Championship this season, with Fellows assisting Maja for five of his 10 league goals [WhoScored].
Academy product Fellows, still just 21, has set the league alight this season which has naturally attracted Premier League attention, with Everton among those monitoring the winger [Alan Nixon, 27 October].
Maja, 25, is unsurprisingly being looked at – with experience in European leagues, Celta Vigo have recently been mooted to be considering a significant £16million bid [Super Deporte, 18 November].
West Brom currently sit seventh in the league table despite having lost the joint-fewest number of games this season (two), which is due to being held to draws on 10 occasions so far.
West Brom would be foolish to sell key players
West Brom will have their ambition judged either way depending on how they go about the January transfer window.
This will be as pertinent for outgoings as incomings, if not more so, with the likes of Maja and Fellows performing out of their skin this season.
The defence under Carlos Corberan have again impressed, but that cutting edge needs to be replicated by the rest of the team and some players have been somewhat underwhelming.
Shilen Patel will be bullish in the media if asked about the club’s prime assets, but they must ensure the duo in particular do not go anywhere anytime soon.

Albion have a huge December before the transfer window opens, two points outside the play-offs and increasing pressure to turn those draws into wins.
And keeping Corberan at the helm is imperative. The nervousness among the Baggies fanbase every time a Premier League manager is sacked unfortunately doesn’t help anyone including themselves, but is testament to his stock as a coach.
