Corberan in shock West Brom exit rumour as Wolves make O’Neil sack decision

Wolves have placed West Brom boss Carlos Corberan at the top of the shortlist to replace Gary O’Neil, Matteo Moretto reports.

The Spanish journalist reported via X [6 December] that Corberan will be the number one target to succeed O’Neil should Wolves lose the “El Sackico” against Julen Lopetegui and West Ham United on Monday evening [9 November].

Corberan is under increasing pressure at The Hawthorns after a string of “mediocre” results in the Championship and thus has been targeted for a sensational switch to Black Country rivals Wolves.

The Spaniard has been touted to move to the Premier League one more than occasion already this season and was named on the shortlist to succeed Steve Cooper at Leicester City [Daily Mirror] before Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed at the King Power Stadium.

West Brom cannot allow Carlos Corberan to join Wolves

Corberan cannot be allowed to join Wolves – end of discussion.

While it may feel like a lifetime ago to West Brom supporters that their side led the Championship table before the 3-2 loss against Sheffield Wednesday, it is not time to hit the panic button just yet at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have fallen out of the playoff spots after a third consecutive draw against Preston North End, the tenth draw already this season, but are only two points adrift of sixth place with so much Championship football yet to be played.

However, Albion supporters may need to be careful what they wish for – a large section of the fanbase is turning on Corberan, which could push him into the arms of their most fierce rivals.

It does feel like the Baggies are in a never-ending rut in the Championship, but pulling the trigger on Corberan’s dismissal would do more harm than good at this stage of the campaign, and with consistent interest from Premier League sides, sticking with the Spaniard seems the only plausible outcome.

Corberan has endeared himself to the West Brom faithful throughout his spell in the West Midlands for his loyalty to the cause, reported interest from Leicester, and even Everton failed to turn his head [The Express], becoming the most hated person in the Black Country is hardly an enticing prospect.

Alas, Albion can do little to stop the Wolves if they choose to approach the Spaniard, but this is nothing but a pipe dream to rally a disgruntled Premier League fanbase.
