Carlos Corberan exit: Southampton hierarchy in agreement over West Brom boss

Carlos Corberan is under consideration to be Southampton’s new manager after impressing as West Brom boss, according to Express & Star.

The newspaper reported via their website on Monday (16 December) that the Spaniard is listed among the favourites to replace Russell Martin at St. Mary’s as the Saints hierarchy are impressed by his methods in West Midlands.

Southampton’s hierarchy are impressed by Corberan’s ability to tighten up defences, but it remains to be seen if they step up their interest as they will have to fork out a sum in excess of £3million in compensation fees.

Moreover, Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl is the bookies’ favourite to take the reins at St. Mary’s as things stand.

Corberan Corberan continues to be linked with West Brom exit amid Southampton news

Corberan is tasked with taking the Baggies back to the Premier League, but continues to be linked with a move to the top flight.

The 41-year-old was linked with the Leicester managerial job after the Foxes sacked Steve Cooper. It eventually came as a relief for The Hawthorns outfit after they opted for Ruud van Nistelrooy instead.

Similarly, Wolves have also sounded out Marcelo Bielsa’s former assistant about replacing Gary O’Neil at Molineux [talkSPORT].

However, the Wanderers are now on course to hire Vitor Pereira from Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab.

With Southampton now in the mix, West Brom will surely be worried about Corberan’s long-term future with them.

It appears he is among those considered for a manager job every time there is a sacking in the Premier League.
