Corberan exit at West Brom may be days away after latest Southampton update

Carlos Corberan could potentially be days away from exiting West Brom amid an update shared by Sky Sports on the Southampton job.

The Spaniard is among the favourites to take over at Southampton, who sacked Russell Martin after the 5-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday (15 December).

Mark McAdam reported on Tuesday (17 December) that Corberan is now one of a few candidates being considered by the Saints.

And in the latest update from Sky Sports, as shared by SaintsExtra on X [17 December], it was reported Southampton want to have a new boss in place in time for Sunday’s (22 December) game with Fulham.

Who will be the new Southampton manager?

Corberan tends to be linked with any managerial role that becomes vacant in the Premier League, so this is hardly anything new from West Brom’s perspective.

Indeed, some have – perhaps cynically – even questioned if the Spaniard’s agent may be behind the constant speculation.

Ultimately, though, it comes as little surprise as Corberan has done an incredible job at The Hawthorns and fits what Southampton are after.

The Saints appear to be heading back to the Championship, but in Corberan they have an ideal manager ready to take them straight back up.

From Corberan’s perspective, turning down a Premier League job will not be easy, and that is something many supporters will respect.

Kasper Hjulmand and Corberan appear to be the two frontrunners for the Southampton job right now, and all West Brom fans can do is keep their fingers crossed that the Saints go with the former of the two.

In other West Brom news, a first-team regular could be set for a game-changing exit from The Hawthorns.
