West Brom fans react to Carlos Corberan to Southampton update – ‘Silly move’

West Brom fans have reacted to the latest update on Southampton’s interest in manager Carlos Corberan.

The Spaniard has been sounded out by the Saints for their shortlist alongside former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand and an unnamed foreign coach [Mark McAdam, 18 December].

The Saints, who are bottom of the Premier League, nine points from safety, sacked Russell Martin after the 5-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday (15 December).

However, Baggies supporters are largely unfazed about another club being interested in their manager after he was linked to vacancies at Leicester City and Wolves in recent weeks.

West Brom supporters don’t think Corberan will leave

Most Albion supporters do not think that Corberan will leave the club. One fan posted on X, saying: He turned down Leeds when they were outside of the relegation zone with a few games left, turned down Burnley and Leicester when they were about to start a fresh Premiership season. But he would go to Southampton when they are destined to finish bottom… Have a day off..”

Another commented: “Let’s be honest, Corberan is unlikely to get the Southampton job. He would sort out their defence but their attack he will struggle with.”

Corberan has been under pressure at The Hawthorns after a run of just two wins from their last 13 matches.

However, supporters should remember that he has taken the club from the relegation zone to playoff contention in such a short space of time.

The Baggies are eighth in the Championship, just two points off the playoff places and a big period of the season still left to play.

Therefore, Corberan should be given time to get the club to where they want to be.
