Southampton draft contract to hire new manager as Corberan-West Brom saga ends

Southampton are set to appoint Ivan Juric as their new manager ending speculation linking West Brom boss Carlos Corberan to the role, according to David Ornstein.

However, Albion supporters were unconcerned by those reports and did not think that the Spaniard would leave The Hawthorns.

It appears that they were right, a report from The Athletic [20 December] states that contracts are being drafted to bring former Roma manager Juric to St Mary’s and that the Croatian is expected to be in the dugout for the trip to Fulham on Sunday (22 December).

Corberan news should be huge relief for West Brom fans

The news that the Saints are appointing Juric should be a huge relief for supporters of the Black Country club.

The fanbase is divided on Corberan’s future after a run of just two victories in the last 13 matches but he should be given time to turn things around.

It is important to remember that the 41-year-old has taken the club from relegation candidates to playoff contenders since he took the role in 2022.

The former Leeds man hit back at his critics in quotes reported by the Express and Star [19 December] detailing the issues that he has faced since he arrived in the West Midlands.

His impact at the Championship Club cannot be judged fairly until the financial shackles imposed during his reign are taken off.

He is the right man to take the club forward and keep them in contention for promotion to the Premier League, supporters should allow him some leeway.
