Russell Martin on West Brom manager list with Carlos Corberan exit imminent
Russell Martin will be on the list of potential Carlos Corberan replacements lined up by West Brom, according to Chris Lepkowski.
The journalist posted on BlueSky (24 December) to state that with Corberan’s move to Valencia already agreed verbally [Diario AS, 23 December], there is “no danger” that Martin will be among Albion’s candidates to fill the void.
Martin was only sacked by Southampton on 15 December with the Saints rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, but having beaten Albion in last season’s play-offs, Shilen Patel could turn to him.
Lepkowski said: “Russell Martin, eh? He will be on that list, no danger.”
Russell Martin would receive mixed reception from West Brom fans
Although his reputation as a top-level manager has taken a hit after winning just five Premier League points in 16 games before being shown the door by Southampton, Martin is still highly-rated.
Surviving a top-flight relegation battle is not Albion’s concern at present, with the only goal for whoever replaces Corberan being to ensure the Baggies remain a key player in the Championship promotion race.

Martin’s Saints were worthy 3-1 aggregate winners over Corberan’s side in last term’s play-offs, with the former Scotland international having taken a team up via this method at his first and only attempt.
Corberan is zero for two in this regard, also losing in the 2022 final while at Huddersfield Town, and with Wembley looking the likeliest route to promotion for the Baggies, Martin could be an ideal replacement.
Albion fans will undoubtedly worry about Martin’s credential following his brief and disastrous Premier League spell, but that’s not yet a worry for the here and now if the 38-year-old is appointed.
