Josh Maja ‘catastrophic’ scenario mooted at West Brom after Corberan exit
West Brom face a “catastrophic” lack of firepower up front if Josh Maja picks up any injuries this season, according to the Football League Paper.
The Football League Paper reported in their print edition on 29 December that in the wake of Carlos Corberan’s exit from The Hawthorns, his replacement will likely want to add more options up front.
Maja has scored 10 goals in 23 Championship starts this term, double Albion’s second-highest scorer Karlan Grant, with the Baggies having sold Brandon Thomas-Asante to Coventry in the summer.
Corberan’s replacement is yet to be appointed, but despite scoring the joint-lowest number of goals in the Championship’s top half, signing reinforcements could be made difficult by financial restrictions.
Josh Maja and West Brom need assistance in January
Although Corberan’s successor could well bring about a complete switch-up in the system Albion are currently operating under – possibly moving Grant further up the pitch – it’s clear how key Maja is.
Without the Nigerian’s 10 goals, the Baggies would be much, much closer to the bottom of the table than the play-off places like at present, and given Maja’s history with injuries, reinforcements are needed.

Kelechi Iheanacho being linked is interesting [ElSevillsta, 5 December], given Maja’s compatriot netted just five times for a title-winning Leicester City side last season, but in the right system, he could thrive.
Corberan’s tenure at The Hawthorns prior to Christmas Eve’s exit to Valencia saw the Spaniard maximise the potential of many Baggies players, and many will hope that Maja can continue his upward trend.
Grady Diangana overcame his own injury battle to feature and score against Derby County last time out, and if January signings aren’t made, Albion fans can potentially take solace in the 26-year-old being back in form.
