West Brom incident v Sheff Utd stuns talkSPORT commentator – ‘Wow’

Karlan Grant left talkSPORT commentator Lucy Ward stunned after he missed a great second-half chance as West Brom drew 1-1 at Sheffield United on Sunday.

The attacker was set to be on the receiving end of an inch-perfect cross from Jayson Molumby in the 50th minute but Blades goalkeeper Michael Cooper got his fingertips to the ball and deflected it away.

The game ended all square with both sides leaving Bramall Lane on 29 December with a point to add to their Championship tally.

Speaking live on talkSPORT 2 (29 December, 13:40pm), Ward instantly reacted to the shot Grant sent towards Cooper’s goal.

“Wow, how on earth? I don’t know how Karlan Grant missed that, somebody must have got something on it,” she said.

“I tell you what, West Brom have just moved the game on about 10 yards, Cooper got to the ball first as he just sort of spun over the top, it was a little bit of a deflection which means it was high and looping but Cooper literally got fingertips to get it out of the way of Karlan Grant.”

Karlan Grant is creating his own West Brom redemption arc

Although Grant’s transfer cost the Baggies a reported £15million to bring him to the Hawthorns [Sky Sports, 15 October 2020], this season it’s felt like he’s more than proved his worth.

While he might not have fully lived up to his fee during his time with the Black Country club, it feels like aside from Josh Maja at the start of the season, he’s been West Brom’s best player this term.

He’s now bagged six goals across all competitions thus far and has even chipped in with two assists which shows how pivotal he’s been to the Baggies’ set-up.

While Shilen Patel is still on the lookout for a new manager to take over from Carlos Corberan who exited for Valencia earlier in the week, it feels like the team are finally getting back to the form they showed last season.

The fact they managed to draw and share the points with the Blades is no easy feat and as long as they keep their performances to this level for the rest of the campaign, things should start to go swimmingly once again.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan’s “unrest” has been revealed before his Hawthorns exit.
