Brunt to make Diangana call as attacker axed – West Brom predicted XI v Preston

Chris Brunt could make one change to his West Brom starting XI as the Baggies return to The Hawthorns against Preston North End.

Mikey Johnston could make way for the lively Grady Diangana as his return from injury becomes complete with recent appearances off the bench.

With the rigorous schedule of games coming thick and fast, the minor rotation could be made as Brunt is – as it stands – set to take charge of his third game at the interim helm.

With Alex Mowatt missing the 1-1 draw at Sheffield United [29 December] through a small injury, Ousmane Diakite could retain his place alongside Jayson Molumby in the middle of the park.

Brunt could drop Johnston for West Brom v Preston

Johnston was just starting to get back into his rhythm of regular starts when Carlos Corberan left the club, having rarely started in the Championship until October.

The Irishman will now be looking to continue his momentum under the new manager but for now, was started by Brunt at Bramall Lane before being withdrawn for Diangana.

Alex Palmer and the same back four are likely to continue, with Torbjorn Heggem again slotting in at centre-half as Callum Styles is utilised at left-back.

Karlan Grant is in inspired form and should partner Josh Maja in a two-pronged attack, with Tom Fellows keeping his place on the right flank.

It is currently uncertain whether Brunt will take charge of the New Year’s Day clash, although will probably be the case even if a new manager is appointed as they would traditionally watch proceedings from the directors’ box.
