West Brom ambitions questioned as key figure linked with exit post-Corberan

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman believes West Brom would be showing a lack of ambition if they opt to sell key figure Tom Fellows in the January transfer window.

Following the departure of Carlos Corberan, the feeling around The Hawthorns has been low and Everton's transfer links to Fellows [Alan Nixon] will not help matters heading into the January window.

Goodman previously questioned the ambitions of the club if they opted to sell Josh Maja and, when speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he shared a similar sentiment when it comes to Fellows.

"What are the ambitions?" asked Goodman. "Well, selling one of your best players is not showing ambition as far as I'm concerned. What would it cost to replace Tom Fellows and bring in somebody that's as good as him? Well, you might as well keep him.

"I don't think the player is disruptive in any way, shape or form. In fact, I think he's striving to hit the heights that he was hitting earlier in the season. And maybe in recent games, there are signs there that he is getting back to that.

"I could understand why a team like Everton would be interested, but I can't imagine him leaving."

West Brom could kiss goodbye to promotion with Tom Fellows sale

January can provide a club with an excellent opportunity to strengthen their squad, while also presenting a risk when it comes to losing players, and Fellows will certainly be in the spotlight.

The England youth international has been a standout player for the Baggies this season and his importance to the team makes any decision on his future an easy one, or at least it should be.

West Brom are not in a position where they would be required to cash in on Fellows, so to consider a sale simply wouldn't make any sense unless the club lack ambition.

Keeping their best players will remain paramount to any hopes of a promotion push and Fellows is capable of spearheading that push.
