West Brom to be thrilled with latest cash windfall at The Hawthorns

Don Goodman believes the compensation received by West Brom for Carlos Corberan’s departure was high for a Championship club.

West Brom didn’t get off to a great start to life without Corberan having lost 2-1 to Derby County on Boxing Day in their first fixture since his departure.

However, as sore as his exit was, the Baggies received close to £4million in compensation from Valencia (Ben Jacobs) with Goodman telling West Brom News it was a high figure for a Championship club.

Goodman said: “Well, it was written when he signed the contract, so it’s like anything, even as a player going back to my playing days, you might find out that one of your best mates has signed a new contract and is on more money than you, but you were perfectly happy to sign your contract when you did. So it’s one of those scenarios, isn’t it?

“Really, the compensation figure was the compensation figure, I mean, quite high by Championship standards. Let’s have it right.

“For West Brom now, it will be about making sure that they get the right person in to carry on his good work and hopefully even maybe take it that little bit further.”

West Brom have no time to dwell over Corberan exit

Football moves on quickly and sometimes relentlessly and it can’t be any different for the Baggies this time round or else they may face the consequences.

While Corberan deserves an astounding amount of credit for what he achieved at the club, the focus has to switch to finding an appropriate successor capable of keeping them on the promotion track.

John Heitinga is one name linked with the role although the Baggies will fight an uphill battle in attempt to acquire his services according to Paul Joyce.

The longer it takes to find a replacement, the less likely the Baggies are to remain in the promotion hunt which given how well they started the season, would be a massive disappointment.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies may have the perfect opportunity to sign this Premier League player.
