West Brom ready to accept £9.9m bid to sell Josh Maja amid Ipswich transfer news

Ipswich Town have expressed an interest in signing West Brom striker Josh Maja in the January transfer window, according to Fichajes.

The Spanish news outlet reported on 29 December that Bournemouth and Southampton are also keen on signing the 26-year-old Nigeria international, who’s scored 10 goals in 24 Championship appearances this season.

It is understood that Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich see Maja as someone who can help improve their chances of staying in the Premier League.

How much do West Brom want for Josh Maja?

It’s unclear why this website in Spain has information relating to West Brom’s top goalscorer.

Bournemouth’s Spanish manager Andoni Iraola is named in Fichajes’ report but he’s not the main focus of it, so it’s a bit of a mystery where they would have gotten this information from.

According to this Spanish website, Albion have valued Maja at £9.9million for the upcoming winter transfer window. This seems like a realistic price given his age, position and his form this season.

It’s claimed that the managerless Championship club “may be willing to let go of the forward if an offer meets their financial expectations”.

West Brom’s PSR situation has been widely reported and while significant reductions have been made in the last few years, things are likely to still be quite close when the next set of accounts are released in the coming months.

Selling Maja – a player who was signed on a free transfer in 2023 – for almost £10million will be a huge boost to Albion’s financial situation. However, selling someone who’s currently second in the Championship goalscoring charts could be a major blow to the side’s faint promotion hopes.
