West Brom next manager: Erik Ten Hag twist as odds revealed overnight

Erik Ten Hag has emerged as a surprise candidate for the vacant managerial position at West Brom.

John Heitinga remains the current favourite to take over at West Brom with odds of 5/2 but BetVictor have placed odds of 33/1 for the former Manchester United boss to become the next manager at The Hawthorns as of 1 January.

The Baggies are still looking to find a successor for Carlos Corberan and with the expected appointment of Mark Robins at Stoke and Lee Carsley seemingly ruling himself out of the job, the list of candidates is getting smaller.

Ten Hag is a surprise overnight inclusion given the stature he has in football having won the EFL Cup and FA Cup during his spell at Manchester United.

Could Erik Ten Hag be the new West Brom manager?

Ten Hag’s link to the post at The Hawthorns is certainly an interesting one but given the odds of 33/1, it seems a rather unlikely appointment although you wouldn’t need to the odds to gauge that opinion.

Although he was sacked at Manchester United, he did win a couple of trophies and you’d expect him to get another job at a club much higher up the footballing pyramid in some capacity, with full respect to West Brom.

With that said, the Baggies need to ramp up their search to find their new boss or else face the potential consequence of having their season fall apart after the excellent work done by Corberan which left them with great potential to achieve promotion.

The Baggies cannot afford the search to drag through the January window for several reasons but perhaps none as big as it is a deterrent for much-needed signings.

Players will be reluctant to join a club without an indication as to who they will be working under and the Baggies need a resolution imminently.

In other West Brom news, this player could join Ipswich Town for a seven-figure fee.
