West Brom v Preston: Out-of-work manager wowed by what he saw at The Hawthorns

Ryan Lowe was left wowed by the goal that Josh Maja scored for West Brom in their 3-1 victory over Preston on Wednesday (1 January).

The attacker was in the middle of the box as Mikey Johnston managed to twist and turn around Preston’s defence and somehow create a chance for the Nigerian to put into the back of the net.

Preston ended up being no match for the Baggies in their Championship game as Chris Brunt’s men smoothly sailed to a win without any bumps in the road.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (1 January, 15:18pm), Lowe shared his thoughts on the Baggies’ goal.

“Josh Maja, great bit of play down the left-hand side from Mikey Johnston,” he said.

“The ball goes forward, he twists and turns, he goes to go on his right foot and sort of chops and comes back on his left, cross across the box there and it falls to Josh Maja just outside the six-yard box.

“He strikes it low and hard”.

West Brom are making their way back up the Championship table

When Carlos Corberan left The Hawthorns, fans were obviously devasted and left wondering where their future could lie.

While a number of names, including Lowe’s have been linked to the role with the former Preston man currently sitting at 33/1 to take over the hot seat (Sky Bet), it feels like Brunt is doing a pretty decent job in the meantime.

The start to the Baggies 2024/25 season was fairly industrious with Corberan’s men occupying the top spot for a fairly decent amount of time.

At the moment, it feels like things couldn’t be going much better and the fact the Baggies are set to get the boost of a new manager coming in, can only mean that good things lie ahead for West Brom and their fans.

Only time will tell where the Black Country club finish in the league this term but at the moment, they look to be well on their way to earn one of the few coveted playoff places.
