Luke Williams has denied he has received an approach to become the new West Brom manager as the Baggies continue their pursuit.

Swansea City boss Williams, 43, has been among the names heavily linked with a switch to The Hawthorns, but according to talkSPORT's Alex Crook on X [1 January], he has played down his chances.

Williams, who claims he is settled in Wales, also admitted the Swans would not be too keen on keeping him around based on their 4-0 thrashing by Portsmouth on Wednesday afternoon.

"Asked Luke Williams for talkSPORT if he could assure Swansea City fans he would stay in the wake of WBA links," Crook posted on his X account.

"'Well, I'm not sure they want my future to be here after just watching that that performance. I certainly haven't had any contact from West Brom.'"

Williams has confirmed the Baggies board have not held talks with him over the vacant role left by Carlos Corberan, though is seemingly refusing to be dragged into a definitive answer over whether he would accept an offer.

Interestingly, his Swansea side and a West Brom side currently overseen by Chris Brunt meet in their next Championship fixture on 4 January, a Saturday lunchtime kick-off at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Brunt could be given the benefit of any doubt, too, following his side's convincing 3-1 win over Preston North End at The Hawthorns.

The victory on Wednesday is the first time the Albion have scored more than twice in a home match this season, potentially staking his claim if he wants the job on a permanent basis.

Alongside Williams and Brunt, the likes of John Eustace, John Heitinga and Steven Schumacher are also higher up the list of odds with Sky Bet.
