West Brom new manager: Final decision made on Luke Williams

West Brom are not considering Swansea City boss Luke Williams for the vacant managerial position, according to Lewis Cox.

Carlos Corberan ended his two-year stay at The Hawthorns on Christmas Day after Valencia triggered his £2.8million release clause [Fabrizio Romano].

The Express & Star journalist reported via X (2 January) that the Baggies are under no immediate pressure to make a swift appointment, and despite reports to the contrary, Williams is not among the list of candidates.

Cox wrote: “My understanding is Swansea’s Luke Williams is not in the frame for the vacant West Brom job. Club in no rush to make appointment.”

West Brom will not appoint Luke Williams

Chris Brunt recorded his first victory as interim West Brom boss after the 3-1 win against Preston North End on Wednesday (1 December) to return to the Championship playoff places.

The result has further eased the tension at The Hawthorns, and with Shilen Patel placing his faith in Brunt, he will take the appropriate time to appoint the ideal Corberan successor [DOOD].

Williams addressed the speculation regarding his future in South Wales and denied any claims of contact with West Brom and while the links continued, it appears the Swansea faithful should have listened to their boss.

For the Baggies supporters, the news should come as a relief – the Swans are sat firmly in midtable in the Championship, and Williams has done little in his career thus far to warrant a move to The Hawthorns.

West Brom, on the other hand, are in a strong position in the second tier and is currently considered among the favourites to record second successive playoff appearances despite Corberan’s premature departure.

Whoever is chosen to lead the new era in the West Midlands must have the credentials to push for Premier League promotion this term or, at the very least, be prepared to launch an automatic promotion charge next year.
