Alan Brazil drops new West Brom promotion verdict after Preston win

Alan Brazil believes that West Brom will make the Championship play-offs by the end of the season.

The Baggies are currently sixth in the second tier and find themselves level on points with Blackburn.

Their 3-1 victory against Preston on Wednesday 1 January was the Baggies’ best performance of the interim stewardship of Chris Brunt with some fans already calling for him to be given the role permanently.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (3 January, 07:26am), Brazil shared his thoughts on West Brom’s chances of promotion.

“I think West Brom are going to come well later on, I really do,” he said. “I’m not saying win it but I think they’ll make play-offs”.

West Brom need to hire their Carlos Corberan successor soon

Although some fans may believe that Brunt has done enough so far to earn the role with the Baggies on a permanent basis, it still feels like it’s far too early in his managerial career for him to be handed the keys to such a high-pressure situation.

Last season, Corberan led the Baggies to a play-off finish and while they didn’t make it all the way to the final, it’s evident that with the talent among their ranks, they can get themselves in the mix.

Of course, Corberan’s exit will lay heavy in the heart of West Brom fans for some time but, if they want to mount a serious charge for the play-off places, Shilen Patel needs to find a new manager soon, especially now that the January transfer window is open.

That’s because, if the new man at the helm wants to make some additions or offload some deadwood, he’ll need as much time in the market as possible otherwise things might not go quite to plan.

In other West Brom news, offers will be considered for one player in the January transfer window.
