Luke Williams agent hits out after West Brom manager updates
West Brom did not contact Luke Williams or his agent over becoming their new manager, the Swansea City manager has confirmed.
Speaking after his side drew 1-1 late on with Chris Brunt’s Albion at the Liberty Stadium on 4 January, Williams denied any approach from The Hawthorns in the wake of Carlos Corberan’s exit to Valencia.
With the Baggies still to announce the Spaniard’s successor, Williams is one of several names who have been heavily linked with filling the vacancy, with the 43-year-old admitting his agent was not happy with his comments.
In quotes reported by Express and Star (4 January), Williams said: “It’s a situation I did not help. I created a lot of the noise.
“There’s been no contact from West Brom, to me, my agent or the football club – in fact, my agent has felt quite unwell and has spent most of the Christmas period in bed.
“He phoned me up to say ‘what have you done?’ – I’m pleased that (it’s) behind us.”
Luke Williams to West Brom looks unlikely after Swansea comments
While Williams’ clapping and waving to all four sides of the Liberty Stadium at full-time could well have been interpreted as a goodbye to Swansea, his post-match comments suggest that wasn’t the case.
Following Corberan’s shock exit on Christmas Eve, the Baggies’ interim management team – led by club legend Brunt – have ensured that the festive period wasn’t entirely spoiled by the news.

Under Brunt, Boaz Myhill and co, Albion have recorded a win, a loss, and two draws, and would have made it back-to-back victories if not for Joe Allen’s injury-time equaliser for the Swans on Saturday.
Shilen Patel has plenty to thank his thrown-together team of backroom staff for steadying a ship left rocked by Corberan’s departure, but the time is now for a permanent appointment to be made.
Williams looks to be out of the running in Albion’s bid to build on the foundations laid by Corberan at The Hawthorns, but there are still candidates aplenty on the open market who could succeed in the job.
In other West Brom news, a potential ‘catastrophe’ regarding Josh Maja has been mooted after Carlos Corberan’s departure.
